Spill control products are commonly available for a variety of specialized spill cleanup application. Neutralization products and products made of polypropylene are designed to contain spills and speed cleanup, while spill kits are designed to minimize the hazards to the cleaners and the environment. Many kinds of spill control products are available from safety products suppliers and industrial equipment suppliers.

A Few Kinds of Spill Control Products

Polypropylene products are designed primarily for containing accidental spills. Socks, pillows, and pads can be retrieved at a moment's notice and placed around spills to prevent them from spreading too far. Thin polypropylene covers can seal off drains and floor grates, preventing material from spreading out of the immediate area.

Once the spill is safely contained, it becomes simple to use acid neutralization products and liquid-absorbent powder or gel to manage the spill. Though some liquid-absorbing spill control products work well for all applications, some are designed for specific materials, and should be clearly marked as such. Also, anyone exposed to spilt materials directly or indirectly should be sure to protect themselves and others by wearing the appropriate safety gear.

All spilt material should be handled and disposed of properly. OSHA and U.N. regulations for the disposal of hazardous materials require isolating the material in a proper container. Chemical-resistant disposal bags and U.N.-approved safety containers are available, along with locking tops, sealing gaskets, and labels for proper identification.
