Filtrete is the name of a type of synthetic air filter, as well as a registered trademark of the 3M company which manufactures it. These filters are specially designed to remove allergens from indoor air. Allergens are small particles that float in the air and are breathed into our respiratory systems. These particles include, among other things, dust, mold and mildew, pet dander, and pollen. In some people, they can cause a great deal of discomfort, and even illness.

Indoor air filtration systems can help with this problem. Unlike small floor air purifiers, which can only improve the air quality in a small space, these whole-house systems are often installed into the furnace or central air system. With the intake and circulation of air within the forced-air system, airborne contaminants get filtered out. What gets circulated throughout the home, then, is cleaner, healthier air.

More about Filtrete Filters

Filtrete filters are composed of extremely efficient, electrostatic fibers manufactured by the 3M company. These fibers work to attract irritating airborne particles and trap them within the filter walls, never again to enter the atmosphere. These filters are famous for being extremely efficient, working much harder than lesser filters and performing much better over a longer period of time. The end result is cleaner air to breathe in your indoor environment.

Three types of Filtrete filters exist, and they come in 29 sizes. In certain situations, a custom-sized filter may be needed. If requested, certain manufacturers can provide custom sizes. These filters can catch material up to 0.3 micron in size. After about three months, however, they will need to be replaced. Replacement filters are available from 3M, as well as other air filter retailers.
