Even if oxygen bars have little or nothing to do with the convention itself, they have proven to be a sure-fire way of drawing a crowd and capturing people's interest. What was once marginalized and written off as a fad is now mainstream in the world of event planning.

Any marketer or promoter knows that to get people talking it's imperative to offer something new, or at least a fresh twist on an old idea. The days of industry professionals meeting around a bar or buffet table to swap ideas and make small talk are over. There are only so many wet bars and cocktail weenies folks are willing to tolerate before the yen for something novel strikes.


The Appeal of Oxygen Bars for Event Planners

There are several selling points about oxygen bars and aromatherapy stations when it comes to choosing a party or event gimmick. The first is that oxygen bars are social. Throw a bunch of executives in a room, and after a while they'll start to form separate cliques, which defeats the whole purpose of many trade shows and conventions. The idea is for people to mingle, and the best way to help them do that is by offering a populist form of entertainment.

But beyond that, oxygen bars for event planners are a healthful, refreshing activity. The benefits of breathing clean air, even for only 10 or 20 minutes at a stretch, are indisputable. Fresh air improves circulation and promotes a feeling of relaxation, which is just what you need after three hours spent cramped in a folding chair listening to some vice president drone on about focus group results and new marketing schemes.
