Installation GuidesWritten by Nicholas Kamuda For some building materials or machinery, it can be difficult to find comprehensive installation guides without going though a lengthy communication process with the manufacturer or supplier of the materials. With others, though, such as modern building systems like ICFs, installation guides are plentiful on Internet websites dedicated to homebuilding and do-it-yourself construction. Many such websites document purchasing, modifying, and installing the materials, often with photo or even video accompaniment. Finding ICF Installation GuidesICFs in particular receive a lot of coverage on the Internet. There are entire websites dedicated to promoting awareness of ICFs as building materials for both residential and commercial applications. Because of the energy-saving qualities of ICFs, they also receive attention from websites that are dedicated to Green building efforts as well. The ICFA, or Insulated Concrete Form Association, has a detailed website that is filled with information documenting the benefits of constructing with ICFs, links to manufacturer's pages, and some resources with installation tips. Of course, the manufacturers of ICFs also have detailed guides on their websites, sometimes including comprehensive PDF documents that provide clear graphic instructions as well as detailed tech specs and other textual information. Many manufacturers are national companies that have regional or local representatives in many parts of the country. Homebuilders may contact these representatives for purchasing ICFs or renting installation equipment. In some cases, the representatives are also available for on-site consultation and customized installation guides.
