Science Magnets

Science magnets, such as rare earth magnets, make excellent teaching tools in the science classroom. Science teachers can use science magnets to create molecular shapes. Students who do better with a hands-on approach to learning will fare better if they have a chance to create the molecular shapes themselves. Plus, playing with science magnets is a lot of fun, which will quickly gain the students' attention--something every teacher can appreciate!

Buying Science Magnets

The easiest place to buy a science magnet is over the Internet. You can easily find Neodymium Iron Boron magnets, or NIBs, as well as Samarium Cobalt magnets. Both of these magnets are part of the rare earth family of magnets, which are incredibly strong. In fact, these magnets can act upon one another from a distance of over 12 inches.

In addition to using these magnets to explain molecular biology and chemistry, you can use them to explain magnetic fields and magnetism. The incredible strength of the rare earth magnets will bring the lesson to vivid, dramatic life. It's like having your very own science museum, right in the classroom!

Many science teachers end up taking these magnets home with them. NIBs are fantastic for use in hobbies. I, personally, love sculpting with NIBs, making everything from hanging mobiles to desk sculptures. Sculpting with magnets is a pleasurable, relaxing hobby that most everyone can enjoy.
