Spherical Magnets

Spherical magnets are particularly beautiful, in my opinion. If you are just getting into sculpting NIB magnets for a hobby, I suggest starting out with at least a couple spherical magnets, along with the more traditional round or square magnets. They have an enchanting shape that looks great in sculptures. They're just a whole lot of fun to play with, I think!

Rare Earth Spherical Magnets

For making sculptures and other models, you'll probably want to use rare earth magnets. Rare earth magnets were created in the 1970s and 1980s. Rare earths are much stronger than the magnets you're used to, which makes them both durable and fascinating.

Two of the most popular rare earth magnets are Samarium Cobalt magnets, and Neodymium Iron Boron magnets, also known as NIBs. Since NIBs are lighter and less expensive than Samarium Cobalts, this is probably the variety you're going to want to order.

Spherical magnets are usually priced according to their circumference. Obviously, the bigger the magnet, the greater the cost. They are often nickel plated for durability. Look online for the best deals, and the greatest variety of magnet shapes and sizes. If you can't find what you want, remember, you can always custom order.
