Benchtop plastic injection molding is a customized process for manufacturing plastic parts. It is useful for making products in small quantities or for making a single custom project. When multiple items need to be produced, you may want to consider using an injection molding machine instead.

Benchtop Plastic Injection Molding Options

When initiating the benchtop plastic injection molding process, you must gather plastic pellets and heat them until a liquid has formed. This liquid can then be injected into a specific mold that you have created. After cooling, the plastic product can be removed.

When creating a design for the mold, there are special considerations to make. You may have a certain shape in mind or specific instructions on what type of product to create. However, certain design factors will make the benchtop plastic injection molding process easier.

The design of the product should have some angles and rounded corners. This will eliminate stress to the product and make it easier to remove from the mold. Wall thickness and weld lines should also be uniform so that the product will remain durable over time.
