Plastic Molding
Written by Jill Morrison
Plastic molding is a popular tool for manufacturing companies. The process is called injection molding. Plastic is injected into a mold to be formed into a specific shape.
Plastic Molding Considerations
The plastic molding process begins with melting pellets of plastic. When a high temperature liquid is created, it can be inserted into a mold. After cooling, the product may be removed from the mold.
When creating a mold, it is important to consider the design of the product. Using some angles will make the product easier to remove from the mold. Corners should also be rounded to avoid unnecessary stress to the product.
Wall thickness is one of the main concerns in plastic molding. Walls can be thick or thin, but should be consistent all around. Weld lines should also be secure and even to avoid cracking in the plastic.
