Rubber injection molding can be used to manufacture small or large parts for companies. Rubber parts can be found in irrigation materials, communications satellites, airplanes, automobiles, medical devices and on many other products that are used in business. Rubber is commonly used to make parts such as balls, bumpers, o-rings, diaphragms, rollers, stoppers, tires, plugs, grommets, hoses, seals, pads, and many more.

Rubber Injection Molding Options

There are a few different types of rubber that can be used for injection molding. Common choices include natural rubber, synthetic rubber, reclaimed rubber, oil proof rubber, and heat proof rubber. Silicone rubber is currently a popular choice for molding. Silicone provides a perfect balance of chemical and mechanical properties. It has benefits such as inertness, a wide hardness range, high and low temperature stability, chemical and weather resistance, electrical properties, and great sealing performance.

Silicone rubber is different from organic rubber because it is usually transparent. Organic rubbers can only be found in black or pastel shades. Unlike organics, silicone also has no taste or smell. Silicone rubber is suitable for food contact and it is nitrosamine free. Silicone rubber is also much easier to mold and process than other types of rubber.

Elastomer is a popular option for rubber injection molding. It is a type of rubber that is commonly used in automotive, pharmaceutical, aerospace, food, and engineering markets. Elastomer provides excellent performance at a minimal cost. It is well-known for its ability to stretch well and then return back to its original shape. Elastomer also has a durable exterior that can withstand harsh weather conditions, heat, and chemicals.
