A thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) is a material that combines the properties of elastomers and thermoplastics. Elastomers are rubbers that can stretch easily. Thermoplastics can be molded easily with heat.

Thermoplastic Elastomer Characteristics

Elastomers are known for their ability to stretch well and always return to their original shape. Thermoplastics can be molded well with heat, but do not respond well to stretching. A thermoplastic elastomer is basically a plastic that can be molded and also stretched easily.

Automotive and engineering markets are avid users of the thermoplastic elastomer. TPE products grow in popularity each year. They are desirable because they are low in cost and also give a high quality performance.

TPE can be molded and manipulated easily. If you desire a certain texture, you can use additives to make the product more soft or sturdy. Temperature also plays a major role and can help to mold the plastic to the desired shape.
