The demand for radio frequency remote controls in a variety of industries is growing. This is because it has some distinct advantages over its rivals, namely infrared and ultrasonic sound. Ultrasonic sound is not even used much any more due to its inherent drawbacks.

Infrared remote controls are inferior to radio frequency remote controls simply because they can't penetrate walls and solid objects the way radio waves can, so they simply don't work half the time. In addition, to use more than one infrared remote control in the same area, a special set of codes needs to be entered into each remote to stop them from interfering with one another. It doesn't always work, though.

Why Radio Frequency Remote Controls?

Technology turns to radio frequency remote controls more and more frequently to solve all types of practical wireless control problems. Because this type of remote can make use of different radio frequencies, simple digital coding can be used to keep one signal separate from the other. In addition, because radio transmitters can actually "communicate" with their subjects, instead of just beaming a pulse at them as with infrared, there is far less room for inaccuracy or failure.

The list of applications to which radio frequency remote controls can be put is unlimited. Every day someone comes up with another idea. Although more expensive than infrared, applications for radio remote control are increasing because of the superior control. In industry, radio frequency remote controls are often the only viable solution.
