If you have been refused regular health insurance because of a medical condition and are not eligible for employee insurance, you will be happy to discover that there is an insurance option available to you today. You can get the high risk health insurance coverage you need by finding a state insurance risk pool. More than 250,000 people have been covered by state risk pools since their inception over twenty years ago.

Thirty states now provide risk pool coverage. They are designed to assist persons who cannot get health insurance at any cost. As non-profit organizations, most of them do not use any tax dollars to operate. They generally require you to provide proof that you have been denied insurance or fit into one of several other categories. You must also be a resident of the state in which you attempt to get risk pool insurance.

Again, you must meet certain criteria in order to get this insurance from any of the states that offer it. For example, you may not be a prison inmate or currently receiving health care coverage from the state. There is an application process to get the insurance, and it may include a number of questions about your medical condition.

As with other types of insurance, your rates will vary depending on gender, where you live, your age, and other factors. Your plan will likely cover the same range of illnesses and services as are covered by a non-risk pool plan, and you will be able to see exactly what the benefits are before you buy the plan. Many of the states allow you to apply for and purchase your insurance online.
