Life Insurance Rates

There are many factors that affect life insurance rates. The people who can expect to get the lowest rates are in good health, have no history of serious medical problems, have parents who are in good health, do not use tobacco products, and do not engage in hazardous activities on a regular basis. For instance, let's say you work in heavy construction for a living, and you are a male over the age of 45, who smokes a pack of cigarettes per day.

You can bet that your life insurance rates are going to be much greater than a female who works as teacher in an elementary school, does not smoke, and has no history of medical problems. It may seem unfair, but that is the nature of insurance. Whether you are looking into car insurance or life insurance, companies must assess your risk factors in order to determine your rates.

The higher the number of risk factors you have, the higher the life insurance rates will be. It is a common equation that does not leave applicants much wiggle room. However, there are some things you can do to lower your insurance rates. The main factor you can change is your use of tobacco products. Although it may be difficult to do, stopping smoking can dramatically lower your rates on life insurance.

Determining Life Insurance Rates

If you have a few factors going against you, there are some options for you to consider. For instance, if you were originally going to apply for whole life insurance, but find that the rates are too high, why not opt for a 30-year term life insurance plan? This can actually be a cost effective way to get the coverage you want at a price you can afford. If you are already well into your forties or fifties, a 30-year plan can be quite beneficial for you.
