Having a Medigap in North Carolina policy provides you with the means to have coverage for services and prescriptions that are otherwise not covered by your Original Medicare plan. Some people with the Original Medicare Plan (Part A and Part B) will buy a Medigap in North Carolina policy from a private company, or choose to get a Medicare Plus Choice Plan. How you get your health care coverage while in the Medicare program depends on which health plan you choose, and it is important to choose wisely.

About Medigap in North Carolina Supplemental Coverage

You can buy supplemental Medigap coverage that pays for some things that Original Medicare doesn't cover such as, deductibles, doctor and hospital coinsurance and emergency care outside the country. Private insurance companies offer this supplemental coverage. Federal regulations mandate these Medigap policies so that they are all standardized and offer the same set of benefits.

There are 10 different standardized Medigap plans, labeled A through J that are available to you in the State of North Carolina. Plan A offers the fewest benefits and is usually the least expensive. Plan J provides the most benefits and so, is the most expensive. Each of the plans varies in what "extras" they cover, but each plan does provide the most basic coverage of plan A.

Depending on which Medigap plan you choose, you can get extra coverage for expenses such as your hospital deductibles, at-home recovery, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, Part B excess charges, preventive care and limited prescription drug coverage, just to name a few. It is important that you familiarize yourself with what each plan provides before selecting the one that will be right for you. Note., every plan will provide the same benefits no matter who the insurer is. For instance, Plan B's benefits will be the same with Blue Cross as Aetna's Plan B. The difference that you will find will be in cost and service of the insurer.
