Camp insurance may need to be purchased separately from your regular sports insurance if you have outside participants coming to your camp from the public arena. Whenever you run a camp or a clinic, your regular participants and volunteers are automatically covered under your team insurance, at no additional cost to you. However, whenever you sponsor clinics or camps on your grounds, and the public at large is invited to participate, you must have adequate coverage for those outside participants.

Camps and clinics are a common occurrence among sports organizations of all kinds. You've probably heard of baseball camps, soccer camps, lacrosse camps, and football camps, to name just a few. Most of the participants in these camps have their own personal medical insurance, which can protect them to some degree in the event of an accident. However, not all participants have their own medical insurance, and the risk to you is greater if you do not have the proper camp insurance taken out to provide coverage in the event of problems.

Essential Camp Insurance

The best way to find out exactly what kind of coverage you need is to talk to your insurance agent, who is preferably a specialist in all kinds of sports insurance. You should most definitely request to get a copy of every single page of your current insurance policy, to learn about any loopholes you may have in your coverage that could pose problems in the event of an accident. More than likely, you will need to purchase some type of camp insurance that will protect all parties in a sports organization, from players to volunteers to directors and officers.

Finally, it is vital that you purchase enough accident insurance to cover at least $25,000 in medical bills. In the event of a serious injury, medical bills often exceed the $25,000 amount and often run close to $100,000. Therefore your sports insurance agent may recommend purchasing camp insurance with a higher medical limit for added protection.
