Criminal LawyersWritten by Patricia Skinner Most of us think of lawyers as being upright citizens who are beyond reproach. While this may be true for a large proportion of them, unfortunately it cannot be applied to all members of the profession. There are some unscrupulous lawyers around. Add to this the proportion who are just plain inept, and you have a significant proportion of the legal profession who should be avoided. So how do you know where to look when you need legal help, or even legal defense in an emergency? As with anything else in life, it pays to do some homework before an emergency occurs. The thing is, the majority of us never imagine that we're going to be involved in any kind of criminal charges. It's not something we want to consider. Picking a Criminal LawyerOne good way to source a good criminal lawyer is by asking a lawyer who specializes in some other field of law: there are many. He or she will know who is good in their own profession and who isn't. Another possibility is tracking down the winning lawyer in a high profile local case. Reading up online about a lawyer is also a good way of finding out about them. Once you've made a choice, try and talk to a couple previous clients, if you can. It's a great way of making sure the attorney practices in a safe and legal manner. Don't be tempted to get a lawyer from out of town. There are advantages to picking a local legal expert. For one thing, they will be comfortable in their local setting, and they'll have some idea of what to expect from the judge. This can make a tremendous difference to the way the case proceeds in court and even to the eventual outcome.
