Personal Injury Settlement

A personal injury settlement is very common in the legal system. In fact, most personal injury cases settle without having to take a lawsuit to court. This is especially true when it comes to driving. Over 90% of motor vehicle bodily injury claims are settled without lawsuits. Generally, disputes are settled through the insurance carriers.

A Personal Injury Settlement Requires Counsel

Even though a personal injury settlement is common, it doesn't mean you should attempt to procure it yourself. They say, "Anyone who represents himself has a fool for a lawyer." This is true even when not taking a case all the way to court. Though it's not fun to pay those lawyer fees, it's worth it. The odds of winning are much higher with good legal counsel.

Every study shows that plaintiffs with legal representation have a higher success rate than those representing themselves. Lawyers know the ins and outs of negotiation. Insurance companies know that the average person does not. They could be prone to take advantage of someone choosing to represent himself.

You Are Taken Care of

When you are represented by counsel in a personal injury settlement, your lawyer will contact the defendant's insurance company and let it know that you are being represented. The insurance company then assigns an adjuster to negotiate the claim with your attorney. Then, talks will begin to determine liability and damages, and negotiate an acceptable settlement.
