Hit Counters

Hit counters, while undoubtedly useful tools, have been greatly surpassed in the field of website analysis. It's sort of like comparing a Model T to a Cadillac Escalade. Yes, technologies on the web accelerate just that quickly.

This is not to say that hit counters have no value; after all, it's important to know how many people are viewing your site. But in these fast moving days, other information is just as essential. Knowing the details of the visitors that appear on your site can really propel you ahead of the pack.

Hit Counters, Move Over

Website usage analysis can break down the raw numbers given to you by a simple counter into smaller, more specific, more useful pieces. For example, wouldn't you like to know how many of your visitors are new and how many are returning? Not to mention how many unique visitors you have in a day?

How about your marketing--don't you want to know how each of your advertisements is performing? Or how about what web searches people use to find your pages? All of this information and more is available with software that interprets the traffic flow to your website.
