Critter litter is a form of bird litter for cages. It simply consists of natural, ground walnut shells. Walnut shells are desirable as litter because they do not absorb liquids or dropping materials. So bacteria, mold, and fungus will take much longer to grow when you are using walnut shells for litter.

Using Critter Litter

Critter litter is one of the most well-known and recommended types of bird litter. It can be purchased from most pet stores. Purchasing this product online is easy and convenient. Some websites may even offer discounts for purchasing bird supplies online. You can order individual packages of the litter, or stock up with bulk packages, depending on your preferences and the amount of storage space you have.

Critter litter can be placed in the bottom of nearly every type of bird cage. Many cages will come with a removable tray for easy clean up. Often, a grate is placed above the tray so droppings will fall past the grate to the litter. Then you will not have to worry about birds stepping on or eating droppings at the bottom of the cage.

When you purchase litter for a bird cage, you will also need to purchase a litter scooper. They are available in different sizes. You can purchase a small or large scoop depending on the size of your cage and cage tray. Often times, a larger scoop is much easier to handle when cleaning out litter from a bird cage tray. An ultra scoop is a recommended litter scooper for easy clean up.
