Akc Chihuahua Breeders

It is up to AKC Chihuahua breeders to use their knowledge of genetics to combine mother and father Chihuahuas to produce a litter of AKC-acceptable puppies. It is also their job to go through the birth process and care for the puppies until they are bought or adopted. Some breeders consider each litter to be a part of their own families and will sacrifice extra time and money for the puppies' health.

The AKC (the American Kennel Club) first recognized the Chihuahua breed in 1904. They have set up a series of standards regarding the dog, which most dog shows strictly follow. Most owners must have AKC-registered Chihuahuas in order to enter any competition.

Thus, it is important that AKC Chihuahua breeders know how to recognize potential dams (mothers) and sires (fathers) to breed. Sometimes they feel the need to travel out of their own hometown to breed their Chihuahuas with other Chihuahuas. This will allow the purity of the bloodline to stay intact without limiting the lineage of the puppies at home.

Finding the Best AKC Chihuahua Breeders

The most professional AKC Chihuahua breeders have the best intentions for the puppies, not for their own pocketbooks. Breeders who keep a diligent eye on the newborn puppies' health during the first few months and who acclimate them to the touch and smells of humans are more likely to raise sociable dogs suitable for human owners. They should also be able to recognize unique traits and be able to guess ahead of time what size and features the puppies will begin to show once they are adults.
