Chihuahua Breeders

Chihuahuas have recently become a very popular dog breed and celebrity accessory. They are adored for their portability, low maintenance and almost unbearable cuteness. Celebrities like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears love to doll their teensy Chihuahuas up in adorable doggy clothes and pamper them with chic treats.

The fact that a breed of dog has become a trend should not be your incentive for getting a Chihuahua. They may be small, but just like any other kind of dog, they need to be cared for well. A dog cannot be viewed as an accessory, something that might go well with your new outfit. When was the last time you had to clean up after your new handbag?

Chihuahuas are often referred to as "saucy." They have a reputation for being very loyal to their owners but quite unfriendly to strangers. Contact with small children usually should be avoided because Chihuahuas are known to have short tempers. Chihuahuas are very hearty little animals and rarely get sick, but are small and fragile, so great care should be taken when handling them.

Finding a Good Chihuahua Breeder

You want to make sure that you get your Chihuahua from a reputable Chihuahua breeder who is first and foremost concerned with the health and safety of the dog. A good breeder should ask lots of questions about your home, your family and your lifestyle. All these questions may seem intrusive, but this shows that the breeder is a kind and caring person.

Chihuahuas originated in present day Mexico. The Chihuahua is believed to have traveled to Europe with Christopher Columbus during one of his trips to and from the Americas. Historians discovered a letter from Columbus to the King of Spain where Columbus mentions a small dog believed to be the Chihuahua.
