Long Hair Chihuahua PuppiesWritten by Sierra Rein Long hair Chihuahua puppies are quite recognizable when first born. They are soft and fluffy, with down-like fuzz surrounding them. As they grow up, their hair lengthens until it plumes around the legs, on the tail, around the throat and at the tips of their ears. Long hair Chihuahua puppies can be born in a variety of colors, from white, fawn (tan), sand, silver, chestnut and a highly prized steel blue. They can also be multi-colored, with black and tan coloring, or tan topcoats and white underbellies. Long hair Chihuahua puppies can be born in the same litter with smooth coat Chihuahuas due to recessive genes within the breed. The care of long hair Chihuahuas is relatively simple compared to other long hair breeds. If the dog is kept mostly indoors, its tendency to have a "shedding" season will abate and he will most likely shed evenly throughout the year. However, the amount of hair that does fall out is minimal and can be controlled through careful brushing every other day. Long Hair Chihuahua Puppies and Cold WeatherAs tempting as it may be, it is very dangerous for young long hair puppies to be brought outside in extremely cold weather. If improperly shielded, their tiny systems can be thrown into shock, their immune systems can be interrupted, and they may succumb to frostbite and even death. Even adults should be carried in an insulated purse or wrapped in a sweater or coat when taken outside.
