Siberian Husky Breeders

Siberian Huskies are beautiful and graceful dogs that have an otherworldly look that captivates anyone they come into contact with. You should never, ever use that as the basis of your decision to get a Siberian Husky. Getting a dog based solely on appearances and not on personality could lead to an unhappy household.

Siberian Huskies are personable pack animals that are friendly with almost any person or dog. They bond well with their owners and become instant friends with strangers. Siberian Huskies are also incredibly smart and use their intelligence for escape plans. Their need to explore will have them constantly working on a new way to escape. They should not be trusted in the house alone around valuables or dangerous items, such as electrical cords. Siberian Huskies become easily bored when left alone and as a result may become destructive. The best kind of home for them is one where they spend a minimal amount of time alone.

Finding the Right Husky for You

Siberian Huskies are prone to hypothyroidism, which is an endocrine disorder. Hyperthyroidism causes low thyroid hormone levels that can lead to lethargy, reproductive issues and weight gain, among other problems. Hyperthyroidism can be avoided, though, through selective breeding.

When visiting a Siberian Husky breeder, be sure to ask if their dogs have been tested for hyperthyroidism. A dog between one and five years of age can be tested for hypothyroidism, but it is a good idea to have the dog tested several times in this time span to make sure he or she doesn’t develop the disease.
