Anaheim is a great place to put down roots by buying a home. This lovely area is more than just the original home to Disneyland and the Anaheim Angels--it's a terrific spot to work or commute to work, and it has top-notch schools for your kids. First-time home buyers will want to take special considerations when looking for Anaheim real estate.

Anaheim Real Estate and the First-time Home Buyer

Buying a home for the first time can be quite a challenge. Once you own a home, it's easy enough to buy another one. Saving up the down payment for that very first house, however, can be tricky. The impetus to stop renting and start owning is obvious: owning your own house allows you to put your money toward something (paying off a mortgage and owning your home free and clear) rather than simply throwing that money away on rent.

To make the move toward buying a house for the first time, you may want to look at "fixer uppers". Remember, your first house doesn't have to be your dream house. Many enterprising young people go out of their way to buy a home that needs a lot of work, so that they can buy it for an affordable price.

They then spend weekends and evenings fixing up the house with their own two hands and the occasional help of an expert, with the intention of selling the house the next year for a much higher price. Then, the savvy couple can either buy another fixer upper, to continue the cycle of trading up, or they can use the money they made to purchase a home where they'd like to stay a good, long time. Families with young children often like to settle down in a home by the time the kids have started elementary school.
