One of the most important criteria for families who are moving into a new area is that the schools their children will be attending offer excellent educational opportunities. Arroyo Grande is a community that meets that need. The three elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools are all considered to be superior facilities.

Arroyo Grande High School

Arroyo Grande High School has more than 2,500 students in grades nine through twelve. All students have access to a rich core curriculum, college preparatory courses, career programs, extracurricular activities and sports programs. The school serves a diverse student population. During the 2002-03 school year, AGHS served 475 Title I students, 79 English Language Learners, 262 Special Education students, and 335 students in the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program. The high school boasts a 96.3 percent graduation rate.

Mesa Middle School serves approximately 800 students in grades six through eight. By the terms of the No Child Left Behind Act, the school's target API (Academic Performance Index) for 2003 was 560. They met and surpassed the target, with an API of 733. Class size ranges from 25-30 students, and all teachers are fully credentialed.

There are approximately 300 children at Branch Elementary School. In 2002-03, all K-3 classrooms in the district maintained a maximum class size of 20 students. The district's average class size for the higher grades was 28 students. Their API target was 560, and their actual API was 847. As you can see by these representative schools, the Arroyo Grande system will serve your child well.
