Pismo Beach Real Estate

Pismo Beach real estate experienced rapid growth over the last century as more of the city became developed, drawing new residents, retirees, and tourists. Prior to becoming the City of Pismo Beach, the area held a rich history dating at least 9,000 years ago the Chumash Indians. Chumash Indians knew the area as a place to find pismu, or tar. In 1840, Pismo Beach was part of Rancho Pismo, granted to Jose Ortega.

After changing hands several times, John M. Price was the man who first took steps to fund a community of Pismo Beach. In 1881, the Meherin brothers leased oceanfront land and built Pismo's original wharf and a warehouse. Price moved a hotel business next to the wharf and Pismo's first pier was also built soon after. Over the years, Pismo's pier has been built and rebuilt; in 1924 it was even longer than it is today.

As the area drew more visitors, tourists, and hopeful residents, Pismo Beach real estate continued to grow. Especially with the opening of Southern Pacific Railroad to California's central coastline, tourism grew drastically with more visitors from San Francisco. Now, the area is easily accessible from both San Francisco and LA, since Pismo Beach, located in San Luis Obispo County, is about halfway between both cities.

Getting to Know Pismo Beach Real Estate

If you are considering buying a home in San Luis Obispo County, many of the cities are quite appealing, especially for those who love the outdoors. Over the years, Morro Bay, Cayucos, and Pismo Beach real estate experienced much growth with beautiful beachside properties located conveniently to larger cities. Many choose to buy a second home at the beach, for both winter and summer vacations in the perfect weather year round.
