The nearly 2,000 square miles of North County's rich and varied terrain and 19 unique communities means a wonderful, if difficult, choice among San Diego County homes for sale. One way to narrow your focus is to think about the environment you prefer. In this wide swath of land between the Pacific to the Laguna Mountains you can find any number of coastal, valley, desert, and mountain settings.

The county, California's second largest, is a quadrant roughly 50 miles by 60 immediately above the Mexico border. All told, it encompasses 4,200 square miles. The beach communities of North County are perhaps the most familiar--Carlsbad, Encinitas, La Jolla, Oceanside, Rancho Santa Fe, and Solana Beach. The coastline varies from wide sandy beaches to jagged rocks and promontories. America's largest state park--the Anza-Borrego Desert--surrounds the Borrego Springs community. Star gazing is a must in this beautiful valley flanked by mountain peaks rising 9,000 feet.

Valley communities are home to southern California's award-winning wineries and countless challenging golf courses. Escondido, Fallbrook (famous for avocados), and Poway are but three delightful places to call home.
