Destin Facts and Figures

The city of Destin sits on 7.5 square miles in Okaloosa County. Mobile is 110 miles to the west, Pensacola only 60. Florida's state capital of Tallahassee is 170 miles east. Destin's residents are largely white (94 percent), early middle aged (42), and well educated (30 percent with bachelor's degrees and 10 percent with graduate or professional degrees). Approximately 60 percent of Destin's adults are married, 14 percent divorced, and 19 percent never married.

With a consistently A+ rated school system, a strong little league sports system, an active community center, and a strong community, Destin is a great place to raise a family! Health care providers and facilities include Sacred Heart Hospital right in Destin as well as several clinics and medical centers, a host of practicing doctors, and a variety of hospitals in nearby towns. As far as recreational, sporting, and cultural opportunities are concerned, there's an amazing set of offerings--from Sandestin Golf to Blue Lagoon parasailing and dolphin excursions, to Emerald Coast Scuba Diving and Bluewater Bay Golf, and far far more!

The last federal census put the number of residential dwellings in Destin at about 5,000. A quick search of available MLS properties on a given day might yield as many as 250, ranging from $180,000 up to $9 million. About 100 of these single-family homes, however, fall in at market prices less than $700,000. The choices among condominiums and town homes are not only more numerous--at a rate of five to one--but more affordable, with a range of $140,000 up to $900,000. Whether you prefer living on the water, family style homes, or penthouse luxury living, you'll find it in Destin!
