Florida Real Estate Renewal RequirementsWritten by Kathleen GagneOnce you have your Florida real estate license and begin practicing the profession of real estate associate in Florida, you will have to begin the process of qualifying for and meeting Florida real estate renewal requirements. The main component of this process is taking the required 45-hour post-licensing course. As with pre-licensing courses, you can take your post-licensing hours either in live classroom settings or online. Florida Real Estate Renewal RequirementsThe post-licensing course will provide you with a review of what you needed to learn to get your license, and it will also keep you up to date on the latest changes and trends in real estate in Florida. Since you have at least 18 months to renew your first license, knowing what is different is essential to successfully passing the exam for this course. Your course must be approved by the Florida Real Estate Commission in order to meet Florida real estate renewal requirements. Real estate professionals in Florida are grouped into two sections, those whose licenses expire on March 31 and those whose licenses expire on September 30. You must be sure which date affects your license so that you can begin to take the required courses in time to avoid lapsing into inactive status or having your license gone. You are required to pay your license renewal fee and to show proof of your successful completion of your continuing education PRIOR to your renewal date. Subsequent Florida Real Estate Renewal RequirementsOnce you have completed your first license renewal, the requirements for subsequent renewals changes. You will only be required to take 14 hours of continuing education course work every two years. This course work must include 3 hours of Core Law and an update on Florida real estate license laws and rules. If you fail to complete your course work and submit your request on time, you will automatically be remanded to inactive status. Be sure to renew as quickly as possible because, if you are inactive for more than two years, your license will become null and void.
