To be eligible to obtain a Florida real estate sales license, you must meet several simple requirements. First of all, you must be at least 18 years old, and you must have received either a high school diploma or a GED prior to your application. You are not required, however, to be either a United States citizen or a resident of Florida. Also, if you are a Florida Bar attorney or a real estate professional in any of the ten states with which Florida has a reciprocal agreement, you may be exempted from pre-license course requirements.

The Basic Florida Real Estate Sales Associate License

Getting into real estate as a professional means acquiring a sales license as an associate. This allows you to conduct the business of real estate under the direction of a licensed real estate broker. To obtain your associate's sales license, you will have to complete a 63-hour pre-licensing course, submit your application for a license to the FBPR, and pass the state exam.

A broker is someone who has had an active sales associate's license under a broker for at least twelve months of the preceding five years. Brokers must have also completed a 72-hour pre-license course plus any applicable post-license education. Licensed brokers may hire and mentor sales associates.

Getting Your Florida Real Estate Sales License

As noted above, you must complete the 63-hour course, submit your application, and pass the state exam. The course work you will cover will include the theoretical, practical, and legal aspects of real estate. It will be designed to help you pass the course exam and the state exam, and it must be approved by the Florida Real Estate Commission. Once you have completed all of the above and obtained your Florida real estate sales associates license, you may want to invest in any of the excellent "getting started" manuals available. These books, combined with the expertise of your broker will help you get off to a good start on your new career.
