You'll find such a wide variety of Ft. Lauderdale MLS properties that the more research you do on south Florida and Broward County beforehand, the better. The stretch from Deerfield Beach, just over the Broward line from Boca Raton and Palm Beach County, down to Hallandale, on the Miami-Dade County line, encompasses some 25 miles. Inland towns--none of which are more than 10 or so miles from the coast--include the delightful Coral Springs, Sunrise, historic Plantation, and Davie.

With south Florida's year-round temperate climate, glorious white sand Atlantic beaches, and a relaxed community atmosphere, it's small wonder that so many thousands come here from other parts of the country. Whether you're retiring from the daily grind and any possibility of winter snow, or looking for small friendly towns to raise a family, Ft. Lauderdale MLS properties will afford you plenty of choice.

Broward County is a marvelous place to call home in many respects. With the Everglades just to the southwest, and central Florida's Disney, Epcot, and Sea World just a couple hours to the north, you'll probably find that Ft. Lauderdale MLS offerings will afford you convenience to all that the Sunshine state offers. With luck, you'll make the time to enjoy all of it, from the nature hikes around Lake Okeechobee to ocean scuba diving and parasailing along the Atlantic coast.

As far as property values are concerned, the 2000 U.S. census put the median value of Ft. Lauderdale homes at about $150,000. A median, however, is not an average, nor a realistic expectation. (As Mark Twain once observed: "There are lies, there are damned lies, and then there are statistics.") A more inclusive range for Broward County real estate in the Ft. Lauderdale area starts at about $125,000 and tops out in the $800,000s. Your best bet is to find a realtor who knows the Gold Coast and its towns and cities.
