Homes In Broward

To make the most of your search for homes in Broward County, you probably want to enlist the help of a savvy local realtor. The real estate market in south Florida is, after all, extremely healthy these days. Homes in Broward are a good choice for a number of reasons.

The county is sandwiched between the more affluent and heavily retiree-populated Palm Beach County and the urban sprawl of Miami-Dade. It offers the same delightful climate, white sandy beaches, and lush tropical landscapes. It is just as convenient to three international airports and southern Florida's many recreational attractions. Broward has, however, a delightful small town community feeling and a great vitality. As a place to raise a family and work, it's an ideal choice.

Homes in Broward are scattered across some 1,200 square miles of small cities and towns. Total population is approximately 1.6 million. That number is somewhat deceptively large. Broward's largest city, the county seat, is Fort Lauderdale, which boasts a city-limit population of only 153,000 residents. The average age of Broward residents is 38. Seventy percent are Caucasian, 20 percent African-American or American Indian, and about 16 percent Hispanic. The median home price in Broward at the 2000 census was approximately $110,000--though a more realistic figure to bear in mind would be closer to $250,000.

Regional Attractions Convenient to Homes in Broward

From scuba diving and snorkeling to yachting and kayaking to horseback riding and hiking, you'll find plenty in the way of recreational activities in Broward. Naturalists will relish the seven acres of tropical gardens and butterfly world in Coconut Grove, the 1,500-acre mangrove forest habitat near Hollywood, and the Wray Botanical Gardens in Fort Lauderdale (sometimes called the Venice of Florida for its 165 miles of navigable waterways). Broward is definitely a wonderful place for the active family!
