Homes In Coral Springs

Homes in Coral Springs, Florida are a sound investment and a great place to live. One of the most successful planned communities in Florida, Coral Springs is known for its first-rate school system, many parks and recreational facilities, and small town neighborhoods. Today, strict landscaping laws, adapted from Honolulu's, remain. Coral Springs boasts what is said to be the only McDonald's without its Golden Arches.

The city arose just 40 years ago after its developers had run out of land around Fort Lauderdale and looked west in Broward county for other opportunities. In December of 1961 they bought 3,860 acres of a 20,000-acre tract of marshland in northern Broward, seeing it as an ideal situation for their vision. By 1964 the project was fully underway.

In 1965 a guest appearance by late-night television host Johnny Carson sparked real interest in local real estate. That famed "land rush sale" of July 10 attracted 10,000 people. It ended with the sale of about 1,100 homes in Coral Springs. On an unfortunately depressing but realistic note, homesite prices that year ran about $2,695 for sites in the Meadows, for $5,500 in the Village Green, and as much as $9,000 in the Hills. By 1968 the range for houses was $17,000 to $70,000. The median value of homes in Coral Springs at the 2000 census was $175,500.

The Name behind Homes in Coral Springs

Coral Springs was very nearly named Quartermore, on the basis of the offer that buyers purchasing three acres of land would receive a fourth (a quarter more) at no additional cost. Other possibles included Curran Village and Pompano Springs. The city was chartered on July 10, 1963.
