Homes In DavieWritten by Helen Glenn Court It's well worth seriously thinking about homes in Davie, Florida if you're looking for a neighborly community with a sense of the countryside. While it's true that the farms there are giving way to development--what areas along the Eastern seaboard are not?--Davie is still a wonderful place to call home. You'll enjoy the tropical climate, nearby pristine Atlantic beaches, and a very good school system. With a population of some 77,000, Davie is at the same time horse country. One of its favorite citizens--now sadly no longer alive but well remembered by many citizens--was Jim Bright, who raised thoroughbred horses in Davie from the 1930s forward. It was Bright who started the Hileah Race Trace just across the line in northern Miami-Dade County. His legacy lives in the Davie town seal, which features, among other elements, a horse's head. Homes in Davie--the median value of which was just over $150,000 at the 2000 census--are a great investment. The same source reports fairly steady new housing construction, despite the dip after September 11. The market is rebounding nicely, however, and is healthy. The majority of homes in Davie are owner occupied. Prices remain affordable, for the time being. The Backdrop of Homes in DavieMore than 165 mils of hiking trails, a still predominantly rural atmosphere, and a strong emphasis on education distinguish Davie from the rest of Broward County. In Davie or nearby are numerous professional schools and universities, as well as a healthy assortment of private and charter schools to supplement the already strong public school system. Convenient to three international airports, Davie is also within easy range of the Everglades, Lake Okeechobee, and central Florida's Disney World, Epcot Center, and Sea World. It's a marvelous place to call home, no question about it.
