Meet Miami, with a skyline not unlike New York's, a population of about 360,000, and characterized by a rich mix of ethnicities and cultures. The second-largest city in southern Florida behind Jacksonville, it is known as the Gateway to Latin America. A bustling urban center with a rich history, a wealth of recreational and cultural activities, and a delightful semitropical climate, Miami is a marvel to visit and a great place to call home!

Miami's Wealth of Architectural History

The city's thirteen neighborhoods offer what is to some an amazing breadth of architectural styles. Among them is the Bahamian style (1890-1920s), which is found mostly in the Overtown area and is primarily the work of shipbuilders turned carpenters from the Keys. Art Deco, Bungalow, Mediterranean Revival, and Mission characterize the classic Miami during the boom years of the first third of the 20th century. The city today is careful to preserve this colorful heritage.

You might be thinking of a condominium in Palm Bay Towers or a single-family home in Coconut Grove or Brickell. No matter what neighborhood or property you settle on, you'll have the same cultural, sporting, and recreational opportunities. From the Miami Dolphins to the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, to the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, to the Atlantic beaches, the city is delightful for visitors and residents alike.

Real estate price vary dramatically, of course, across the greater metropolitan area, from neighborhood to neighborhood. The median house value of $120,000 fixed at the last census is scarcely a good benchmark. First, it is a statistic rather than a selling price. Second, the market has boomed since the census. Prices today might begin at about $100,000. Given that they top out in the millions, finding a local realtor with market savvy and intimate knowledge of Miami's neighborhoods is an important early step in a search for property.
