An example of an industrial city becoming successfully modernized is to be found in Dallas, Texas. The city grew to life with the oil industry in Texas, and became an economic powerhouse. However, the oil industry largely migrated to Texas in the 1980s, but Dallas was not doomed. Becoming the "Silicon Prairie," Dallas became a major competitor in the software and technology field, ranking with San Jose and the Silicon Valley in the industry.

Getting a House in Dallas

Today, Dallas enjoys a steady economy and a vibrant arts scene. Economic analysts indicate that the city is coming out of a small slump from the dot-com bust, and Dallas may soon be a booming city once again. Home prices are modest, but the demand is increasing and property in the city is rising in value.

In the wake of the bust, though, there is an excellent market for investment realty. Overnight millionaires bought houses that they can no longer afford, and had to foreclose on the mortgage. These homes are up for auction now, but may sell for record prices when Dallas rebounds.

To find a foreclosure in Dallas, you can find listings online. Websites collect information from various lenders, as well as the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and compile master lists of properties up for sale. Real estate listings are updated frequently, but sell quickly--so act fast if you see something you like!
