During the Civil War, many southern cities were razed to the ground, taking the history of the towns and their buildings with them. Newnan, Georgia was spared that fate and, as a result, it bears the title "City of Homes." Newnan is located 34 miles southwest of Atlanta, as the crow flies (about a 45-minute drive from downtown Atlanta). It covers 18.6 square miles and is home to over 16,000 people. Newnan is the county seat of Coweta County and has five historic districts registered with the National Register of Historic Places.

There are many active organizations to enjoy in Newnan, including the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society, which is focused on preserving Newnan's southern heritage. Newnan is also home to the Newnan Arts Council and the Newnan Community Theater Company.
