Kihei is South Maui's hottest property. Most obvious, this area is the sunniest and driest on the island. Haleakala, the 10,000-foot volcano, blocks the northeasterly trade winds and the storms they usher into the northern side of Maui. This geographical fact creates the best series of beaches on South Maui.

Kihei is also the social hot spot of South Maui. More eclectic than upscale Wailea and secluded Makena, Kihei is flashier, with saloons, condos, and restaurants along a six-mile strip that caters to visitors.
