Lahaina Real Estate Has It All

Few areas of Maui have as good a mix of older houses and new condos as Lahaina. A beach town, Lahaina means "cruel sun." Being on the leeward side of Haleakala, West Maui real estate can heat up. Fortunately, it is also one of the best areas in the world for water activities.

Lahaina real estate is a particularly good location for families because some of the beaches, bays, and snorkeling spots are safe for children. Launiupoko Beach Park is a local favorite, with its natural pool surrounded by a lava rock wall. Napili Bay, just a few miles up the coast, is known for its sandy beaches and good swimming. This is an excellent snorkeling spot for beginners as well as experts.

Water Activities Galore

Puamana Beach County Park, close to Lahaina real estate, has good swimming, and provides picnic tables, restrooms, and grills. This is a great spot for novice and intermediate surfers to catch good waves. Wahikuli State Park is still another local favorite because of its calm water conditions that allow safe swimming, snorkeling and boogie boarding.

If the family ever tires of all the great water activities, Lahaina offers much more. The Sugar Cane Train with a puffing steam engine pulls quaint cars between Lahaina and Kaanapali. The conductor sings entertaining songs and describes the sights and landmarks. Since present-day Lahaina real estate used to be a whaling center, it seems appropriate for the Whalers Village in nearby Kaanapali to offer not only fantastic shopping, but museums dedicated to illustrating the colorful past of Lahaina.
