Varied Maui Vacation Homes

Maui vacation homes are as varied in type and location as the microclimates on the 48-mile-long island. Timeshares are available all along the southern part of the island, which includes West Maui real estate and South Maui property. Kihei, one of the more affordable areas in this region, has many timeshare selections to choose from.

Kihei also offers a less traditional version of shared ownership of Maui vacation homes. Environmental Ohana has second homes available in a new development in South Kihei. This is not a timeshare, but fractional/shared ownership in a private residence club at the beach. This is a technique of limiting capital outlay and eliminating the hassles of reserving space for vacation time. For instance, two months' permanent ownership of a residence is selling for around $42,000.

Condos and Houses

Luxury condos can be bought or rented in the resorts of Kapalua, Kaanapali, Wailea, and Makena--all on the southern coastline of Maui land. Kapalua Ridge and Kapalua Bay Villas, among other communities at the resort, offer condos that can also accommodate short-term vacation rental. At Kaanapali, inquire about Kaanapali Alii on the beach. The low-rise, secluded condos at Wailea Point and Makena Surf are just two of the neighborhoods that have Maui vacation homes on prime coastal real estate.

Families, and those who are a bit more budget-minded, would want to check out the houses in the Napili/Kahana/Honokowai area. A bit farther south, Lahaina also offers more affordable accommodations, from hotels to condos to homes. Continuing south, Kihei has an eclectic mix of lodging, much of it in the affordable range. All these areas also have some of the most swimmer-friendly ocean on the island. Watersports for children, novices and experts, are a great attraction in this whole region.
