Wailea, Maui, is one of the most popular vacation spots for both residents and visitors alike. Featuring five crescent-shaped beaches, this "water of Lea" (the goddess of Hawaiian canoe makers) is a haven for swimmers, shoppers, and sunbathers from around the world. Three 18-hole golf courses, tennis courts, award-winning spas, and many other recreational opportunities are also available.

Wailea, which is located on the leeward side of the island toward the south, is much drier in nature and sometimes receives only 12 inches of rain per year. The terrain is very gentle, with sloping hills that cascade down to white, sandy shores. The resort city itself is only about 1,500 acres in size and boasts only 5,700 permanent residents.

Living in Wailea Maui

Wailea is filled with master planned communities, meaning that the original developmental plans in the area includes parks, bike paths, shopping areas, golf courses, and commercial centers. Wailea Maui is essentially a resort community and includes private homes, condominiums, and several different luxury hotels. Wailea is also very close to the resort cities of Makena (to the south) and Kihei (to the north). Thus, just by hopping in a car for a short day trip, visitors and residents can choose to expand their recreational and shopping options even further.

One can choose to either rent or purchase a piece of real estate property in the area. However, due to the fact that the land is so crowded with interested parties, it is essential that one have the most up to date pricing and loan information on hand. It is also a good idea to hire a professional Hawaii real estate agent, especially one who knows the area of Wailea well and can recommend the best way to go about nailing the deal.
