Wailuku, the home of Maui's county and state government buildings, is a thriving community with numerous real estate opportunities. Because of this, homes located near downtown Wailuku are incredibly desirable, especially for commuters who wish to live near their workplaces. The city is the location for hospitals, high-rise office buildings, and numerous commercial areas as well.

Wailuku is near the lower regions of the West Maui Mountains, which are filled with residential areas and sleepy retirement homes. With views of both Haleakala and the northern shore, these neighborhoods are incredibly popular. Plus, Wailuku is in central Maui and is only a short drive's distance from the northern, western, and southern shores.

Affordability and Convenience in Wailuku Real Estate

While tourist-friendly resorts and condominiums usually cover the shorelines of Maui, Wailuku is more known as the islands industrial, civic and commercial hub. Real estate in Wailuku is thus more affordable and residential in nature. The median price for a single-family home in the area (as of the end of March 2005) was $480,000, while condominiums went for around $250,250.

These prices are quite reasonable when compared to the million-dollar prices commonly found in the resort areas of Lanai, Wailea, and Makena. Residents who wish to live close to local schools, churches, hospitals workplaces, industrial companies, and commercial areas can find more affordable real estate in Wailuku than anywhere else. Plus, they have the option of visiting the beach and taking part in entertaining recreational activities whenever they wish.
