Before buying Whistler resort real estate you should ask yourself a few questions. Do you want to use your vacation home more than a week each year? Do you expect to share your vacation home with friends and family, or use it for alone time? Last and most importantly, what is your budget for Whistler resort real estate?

Answers To The Whistler Resort Real Estate Questions

If the answer to the first Whistler Resort real estate question is that if you only want to use it for a week or maybe two weeks each year, then you are most likely a prime candidate to buy a timeshare. As mentioned on other pages on this site, a timeshare is the least expensive way to enjoy a multi-bedroom, multi-bath condo or townhouse. With daily rates for comparable rental units going in the $500/day range it isn't difficult to see that it is a wise choice to purchase a week in perpetuity for about $15,000. When you add in the maintenance costs and spread the initial investment out over say 10 years, your week will cost you about $2,000 with timesharing versus $3,500 by simply renting.

If the answer to the second question is that you will be using your Whistler resort real estate alone most of the time, then you can purchase something much smaller and less expensive. Why pay extra for a multi-bedroom unit when a one bedroom unit will suit you fine and cost far less? You can buy a hotel room timeshare at one of the better resorts and find that the initial outlay and maintenance costs will be far more attractive and affordable if you simply don't need the extra rooms. If you need more rooms because you expect to be sharing your Whistler resort real estate with friends, why not have them share the cost? They can pay your maintenance fee and still fare far better than if you were all renting.

If the answer to the last question is that you have extra cash on hand and can carry a mortgage, then you may want to think about purchasing a multi bedroom condo or townhouse outright. You can use it when you like and rent it when you're not there. There are many property management companies and Whistler realtors that can help you keep your Whistler resort real estate rented and defray the cost to you. At some point in the future, if you decide to sell you will see profits that should make your vacations virtually free.
