Beacon Hill real estate is on the move. Beacon Hill is a charming, early 19th century community with narrow streets. The brick row houses mainly reflect Federal, Victorian and Georgian styles. This National Historic District is remarkably well maintained, with well-preserved houses, low-traffic streets paved with cobblestones and gas-lit street lighting.

This is the perfect neighborhood for those who have a flair for the classics. Up until the conclusion of the 18th century, the south slope of Beacon Hill was a pasture owned by the painter John Copley. He sold it to the Mt. Vernon Proprietors who then designed wonderful homes on the south slope. By the mid-1800s, Beacon Hill was a fully developed, popular district attracting people of all classes and Beacon Hill real estate was the toast of the town.

Beacon Hill Real Estate Sustains Growth in Spite of Challenges

When expansion of the Back Bay district commenced, many Beacon Hill residents moved to the more desirable new district, which boasted bigger houses and wider streets. Beacon Hill was on the decline until the latter half of the 20th century and today the area thrives again. It is a 19th century district in the middle of a 21st century metropolis.

Such is the charm of Boston-historical homes and building in the heart of a booming major city. Most major cities give way to modern development, gradually erasing the structures of the past. The people of Boston choose to preserve their treasures and blend them with today's new architectural ideas. No other major United States city has managed to do this so successfully which is why Beacon Hill real estate remains so desirable.
