Massachusetts real estate for sale is easily explored online. We might first think of Boston, of course, and Cape Cod. The commonwealth, however, is 50 miles north to south and 190 miles east to west. That means a good deal of Massachusetts real estate for sale, or not for sale. Government figures for the 2000 census indicate that there are approximately 2.5 homes--whether single-family houses, row houses, or condominiums--statewide.

One of the more interesting aspects about Massachusetts real estate is its singular increase in value in recent years. Once ranked 26 among the 50 states, property values are now ranked third. Boston trails only San Francisco and Honolulu in real estate prices.

The median house value in Massachusetts real estate for sale is about $200,000. The effective house value, what you'll find as you begin your search in earnest, ranges from $200,000 to perhaps $500,000. This is not to say, of course, that condominiums and row houses and single-family homes in certain neighborhoods and smaller communities and towns throughout the state won't be priced comfortably between $100,000 and $200,000.

You're probably best advised to research the area you want to live thoroughly before consulting a realtor. A phenomenal amount of reliable information is available online. Details on population demographics, crime statistics, school systems, and public transportation are probably toward the top of the list. That's only the tip of the iceberg. The city of Boston's website presentation of the 21 city neighborhoods is a very good example of effective and concise data.
