Incorporated in 1885, the city of Silverton, Oregon is well worth thinking about as a place to call home. First settled on the banks of Silver Creek in 1846 before it moved upstream in 1854, Silverton is one of Oregon's older communities. Thousands of settlers poured into the Willamette Valley along the Oregon Trail in the 1840s and 1850s. This rich stretch of farming land on either side of the north-flowing river has been home to the majority of Oregon's population ever since.

Located about 16 miles northeast of the state capital of Salem, Silverton, Oregon lies in Marion County. It has always been a vibrant community. Within nine years of its incorporation, its population had grown to more than 900. A trading and banking center early on, Silverton's economy thrived on lumber and grain. Its Silver Falls Timber Company was once the largest sawmill of its type in the world. Those industries have given way to others over the years but Silverton continues to thrive. Today it is home to nearly 8,000.

You're surrounded by a beautiful environment, a neighborly community, and a great town for family life. Silverton has a local hospital in addition to three larger facilities within a 15-mile radius, nine public elementary and middle schools as well as two private schools, and one public high school. The town's most recent civic achievement was Oregon Garden, a premium attraction centering on 400-year-old oak tree and 80 acres of specialty botanical gardens.

The median house value of about $155,000 put on Silverton real estate is a bit higher than the state average. It is, furthermore, a statistical figure rather than what you'll necessarily see in the listings of available properties. An MLS search for three-bedroom properties, a more realistic indicator of the market, returns as many as 150 to 200 properties on a given day. Selling prices range from a low of $90,000 to a high of about $350,000. A local realtor is always your best bet for a useful real estate search. Silverton, Oregon is such a great place to call home, you don't want to miss the opportunity.
