A Nashville Realtor is a real estate agent who is an active member of the National Association of Realtors. The public is generally not aware that the name Realtor is a registered trademark and reserved for use solely by NAR members. In other words, not every real estate agent in the area can be called a Nashville Realtor.

A Nashville Realtor is obligated to follow a Code of Ethics and is usually a member of the Board of Realtors in Tennessee or an immediate neighbor state. Each realty office affiliated with NAR designates in writing one member Realtor who is responsible for all the obligations and duties of membership. These include arbitration as related to the Code of Ethics, and payment of Board dues.

Salespersons or other associates working in a particular Realtor's office are eligible for Realtor-Associate membership. Persons who specialize in other than residential brokerage may be eligible for Institute Affiliate membership. Certain other individuals in related professions may qualify for Affiliate membership and should contact the National Association of Realtors for details.

A Nashville Realtor Shares the Profession with Other Ethical Persons

A real estate agent or broker may choose not to apply for membership in the National Association of Realtors for a variety of reasons. This individual's ethics may also be very high and above reproach. Obtaining information about an individual, including referrals from friends, is an accepted route to pursue, whether the real estate agent is a Realtor or not.
