San Marcos is a thriving college town. As a result, apartment housing options come in all shapes and sizes. Converted Victorian mansions with multiple apartments contained within are an option, as are luxury apartment homes, complete with club house, tennis courts, swimming pools and beautifully landscaped grounds. With so many rental housing options available, with a little research, anyone can find his or her ideal San Marcos apartment.

A Variety of Options

For some, the perfect apartment is found within the walls of a converted Victorian home. These homes dot the streets of the San Marcos historic district like delicately ornate gingerbread sculptures. Beautiful apartments like these will often feature hardwood floors throughout, antique fixtures, and graceful crown moldings. Drawbacks can include a lack of dedicated parking and being shoulder to shoulder with one's neighbors coming in and going out the main entry way. Nonetheless, the charm and architectural benefits for those who prefer this kind of housing easily outweigh the disadvantages.

Others prefer the more traditional apartment lifestyle found in modern complexes. This type of apartment is typically a single floor unit, carpeted throughout, featuring a small privacy deck and a fairly open floorplan. The charm quotient can be low, but convenience and privacy are typically quite high. As budgets go, these apartments are usually the most affordable, and therefore popular with students. Common amenities include swimming pools, dedicated parking, and communal laundry rooms.

Then, of course, there are the "apartment homes." Apartment homes, so called, are usually the most expensive on the market, and with good reason. They often feature imaginative floorplans, fireplaces, and large outdoor living areas. Frequently, washers and dryers are provided within the apartment. High-end kitchen appliances are also included, as well as supremely well-designed kitchens. Though the occasional well-heeled student will be found living in these complexes, typical residents are professionals or retirees. Complexes such as these will almost always features considerable "lifestyle" draws, like spas and swimming pools, tennis courts, clubhouses, and the like. Many feature beautifully landscaped grounds, with excellent views of the San Marcos River.
