San Marcos NewsWritten by Blaire Chandler-Wilcox For those who want their news about San Marcos, there are quite a few websites online that can deliver to the faithful 24 hours a day. Some are designated online newspapers, others simply cache together all San Marcos news, wherever on the Web it may be found. And of course, there are numerous offline news options as well, including daily newspapers, local television, radio, and other print media. News: Online, on TV, on RadioFor the online options, one's San Marcos news needs may be fully met by the San Marcos Daily Record online. The Daily Record covers national and international news to be sure, but the primary emphasis is certainly on local events. If you're looking for the score of the high school's basketball game, what time the parade is on Sunday, and where local elected officials stand on the paint colors of choice within the Historical District, the Daily Record is the paper of record. Another great online source is one of many news websites that gather together in one place all the local news pertinent to a region, regardless of original source. For instance, these news websites would have a local page, from which one could select the city of San Marcos. A page would then be pulled up, which would contain every news story about a city found on the Web for that day, week or month. The San Marcos page might contain stories from the Daily Record, those from the San Antonio and Austin papers, and the online editions of local television stations. While certainly there are online editions of the local electronic media as well, television news is still best enjoyed via the TV. And the same is true for radio. Locally speaking, though there are regional stations devoted to the major networks (most of which are based out of Austin), there are only two local television stations. One is a WB affiliate, KHPM, and the other a very low frequency station, KTXU, a local cable access channel run by the university. In terms of local radio stations, while there are dozens of stations available over the air in San Marcos, there is only one local FM station, the ever popular KEYI located at 103.5 on the FM dial.
