For most single parents, the struggle to find dates is difficult and time consuming. Between jobs, driving children to school and back, and balancing daily house chores, a single parent may not feel he or she has the time to meet other singles. However, many parents have found dates, romance, and even a second chance at a family through online dating sites.

Before choosing a dating sites, single parents should be very honest about their current situation. Signing up with an online personals site that specializes in bringing singles who have family values and marriage in mind is a great idea. If the parent is raising their children in a particular faith, joining a religious-based dating community is also a good start.

What Single Parents Should and Should NOT Do

If the site is a mix of singles with and singles without children, be very honest about your family situation. Include the number and ages of your kids (without first and last names for safety reasons) and add whether you are widowed or divorced. Do not go into any great length about how the marriage or family unit ended, as this will disenchant other singles and may repel them away rather than attract them.

Make sure you detail what you are looking for in a date, especially if you are looking for a second mother or father to the children. This will weed out all those uninterested in children and family. However, do not give out any personal information regarding yourself, your children, where they go to school, and where you live, as this will endanger both yourself and your kids.
